A dentist who gets it, because he's been there

Dr. Tran didn't stumble into pediatric dentistry. He chose it intentionally, after connecting the dots between his own childhood experiences and what he was seeing every day in the dental chair. After earning his DMD from Boston University School of Dental Medicine, he completed a GPR at New York Presbyterian Hospital and then pursued his pediatric dentistry training at Stony Brook Hospital, where he still serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor today. That connection to Stony Brook isn't just a credential on a wall; it keeps him at the leading edge of pediatric dental care.

With 14 years of experience, Dr. Tran has built something meaningful here on Long Island. He purchased the practice of his attending, Dr. Mark Salerno, carrying forward a legacy while shaping it into something entirely his own. Joining him are Dr. Gabby and Dr. Ally, both pediatric dentists, and Dr. Erin, the practice's in-house orthodontist. Together, they bring a depth of care to every patient that goes well beyond a routine cleaning.

A team that feels more like family

Walk into Smile First Pediatric Dentistry and you'll notice something right away: the energy here is different. The team is close-knit in the truest sense, celebrating wins together, working through challenges together, and showing up for each other every single day. That same warmth extends directly to patients and parents. Families share stories about their lives with the team, and the team genuinely treasures that trust. Quarterly check-ins keep everyone aligned, and a culture of honesty, compassion, and excellence guides every interaction.

The office itself is designed to put kids at ease from the moment they arrive. After each visit, patients pick a prize from the old-school vending machine, a highlight that kids genuinely look forward to. New patients receive a Polaroid photo and a handwritten thank-you note in the mail, along with the practice's mission statement. Stickers, toys, and a team that actually talks with your child (not just at them) round out an experience that makes coming to the dentist feel like something worth looking forward to. Late hours until 6pm and alternate Saturday appointments mean scheduling actually works for busy families, too.

Care that covers everything your child needs, all under one roof

Smile First Pediatric Dentistry is built around preventive care and early intervention, because the best dental story is one that starts before problems begin. Routine cleanings, digital X-rays, fluoride, dental sealants, and infant dentistry form the foundation. For children who need more, the practice offers restorative care including white zirconia crowns, pulpotomies, and needle-free dentistry options. Sedation dentistry, including nitrous oxide and IV and general anesthesia, is available for anxious patients and those with special needs, and the team holds OR privileges for hospital dentistry when it's needed. Orthodontic care, from Phase 1 early interceptive treatment to Invisalign and traditional braces, is handled in-house by Dr. Erin, so families never have to go elsewhere. Advanced tools like Overjet and iTero support thorough, transparent treatment planning at every visit.

Whether your child is coming in for their very first visit or has been avoiding the dentist for years, Smile First is a judgment-free environment. The team never scolds parents about home care challenges; they're just glad you're here. Same-day and weekend appointments are available for emergencies, and the practice accepts most major insurance plans, with flexible financing options to help make care accessible for every family.
