From the first phone call to the final follow-up, everything we do is designed to make your family feel seen, supported, and genuinely excited to come back.

Meet your pediatric dentist

Dr. Viet Tran

Dr. Tran's path to pediatric dentistry wasn't just academic, it was personal. Growing up, he experienced firsthand how a difficult dental visit could leave a lasting mark, and those memories never left him. After earning his DMD from Boston University School of Dental Medicine and completing his General Practice Residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital, he pursued advanced training in pediatric dentistry at Stony Brook University Hospital, drawn by a deep desire to make dentistry different for the next generation.

With over 14 years of clinical experience, Dr. Tran built Smile First on a philosophy rooted in empathy: meeting every child exactly where they are, going at their pace, and refusing to rush an experience that deserves care and intentionality. When he had the opportunity to take over the practice of his mentor, Dr. Mark Salerno — a beloved figure in Long Island pediatric dentistry — he saw it not just as a career milestone, but as a responsibility and a privilege. That legacy continues today across three locations.

Dr. Tran is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Stony Brook University Hospital, where he helps train the next generation of pediatric dental professionals. His academic involvement keeps him at the forefront of the latest techniques and research, which directly benefits every patient who walks through the Smile First doors. He was an early adopter of Overjet AI-powered radiograph analysis and incorporates tools like iTero digital scanning to give families a more accurate, transparent look at their child's oral health.

Beyond the clinical side, Dr. Tran is known for his ability to connect with kids, parents, and the broader community. His team reflects his values: honest, compassionate, growth-minded, and genuinely proud of the work they do together. He believes that a judgment-free environment, clear communication, and a little humor go a long way in changing how a child feels about the dentist — and how they'll feel about their health for the rest of their life.

When he's not in the office, Dr. Tran enjoys golfing, beach vacations, biking, exploring new destinations, rooting for the NY Giants, and spending time with his nephew.

Dr. Gabrielle Fusco

Dr. Gabrielle Fusco brings warmth, creativity, and a genuine love of children to her work at Smile First. Growing up in Franklin Square, NY as the oldest of four siblings, she always had a natural connection with kids — and built her career around turning that into something meaningful. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Adelphi University and earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery from Touro College of Dental Medicine, where she received the Excellence in Pediatric Dentistry award. She completed her pediatric residency at Stony Brook University, serving as chief resident.

Dr. Gabby specializes in caring for children of all ages, including those with special healthcare needs, using fun and imaginative approaches to make every visit something kids actually look forward to. She believes pediatric dentistry is a journey, and she's committed to partnering with families at every stage — keeping communication open, questions welcome, and the environment as comfortable and joyful as possible.

Outside the office, Dr. Gabby loves traveling with her family, spending time outdoors with her daughter, and baking. She can't wait to welcome your family to Smile First and help build a lifetime of healthy, confident smiles.

Meet your orthodontist

Dr. Erin Diamantakis

Dr. Erin Diamantakis has been dedicated to orthodontics since childhood. As a young patient herself, she fell in love with the field early and spent years working as an orthodontic assistant while earning her undergraduate degree in Spanish on full scholarship at SUNY Stony Brook. She went on to earn her doctorate from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, completed a general practice residency at North Shore University Hospital, and finished her orthodontic residency at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx — bringing a uniquely well-rounded perspective to her specialty.

Dr. Erin is a member of the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, the New York State Dental Society, and the Suffolk County Dental Society, staying current with the latest advancements in orthodontic care.

Outside the office, she loves spending time with her husband Dr. Manny Diamantakis and their two children, Leo and Kalli. She's proud to have built a career around a field she's been passionate about her whole life — and she brings that same enthusiasm to every patient she sees at Smile First.

Meet your pediatric dentist

Dr. Ally Sullivan

Dr. Ally Sullivan grew up in Middletown, New Jersey and earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Siena College in Albany, New York, before receiving her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. She went on to complete an Advanced Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry, gaining specialized training in preventive and restorative care, emergency treatment, and behavior guidance.

Her love for pediatric dentistry is personal — her own positive childhood experiences in the dental chair inspired her to create that same sense of comfort, trust, and confidence for every child she treats today. Dr. Sullivan specializes in caring for infants, children, adolescents, and patients with special healthcare needs, and is known for her gentle, patient-centered approach that puts kids at ease and keeps parents informed every step of the way.

She is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, and the Suffolk County Dental Society.

Outside the office, Dr. Sullivan enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and their dog, Appa — whether that's exploring local parks, getting out by the water, or settling in with a good book.

A first visit designed to put your whole family at east

Your child's first visit

From the moment you call to schedule, the Smile First experience is designed to feel easy and reassuring. The team walks you through what to expect before you ever arrive, verifies your insurance benefits ahead of time to reduce any surprises at checkout, and makes sure someone is with your child every step of the way.

Patient Experience

At your child's first visit, we'll ask what brought you in and what matters most to your family, because your goals shape the care we provide. Our doctors review findings with you in plain language, use Overjet AI-powered analysis to walk through X-rays clearly, and involve you fully in every step of treatment planning. Before you leave, you'll have your next appointment scheduled and a clear picture of what to expect going forward.

What to Bring

To help us make the most of your child's first visit, please bring the following:

Dental insurance card(s)

Photo ID for the parent or guardian

Completed new patient forms (available online through CareStack prior to your visit)

List of any current medications your child takes

Any relevant dental records or X-rays from a previous provider, if applicable

Modern tools and thoughtful touches that make every visit better

At Smile First, we invest in the technology and the little details that make a real difference, because great dental care is about more than what happens in the chair. Every element of our office is designed with your family's experience in mind.

Overjet AI-assisted diagnostics

Overjet is an FDA-cleared artificial intelligence platform that analyzes dental X-rays in real time, helping our doctors detect decay, bone levels, and other findings with greater accuracy and consistency.

iTero digital scanning

The iTero scanner creates precise 3D digital impressions of your child's teeth without the mess of traditional molds. It's faster, more comfortable, and gives our in-house orthodontist the detailed imaging needed to plan orthodontic treatment, including Invisalign, with confidence.

Digital X-rays

Our digital X-rays use significantly less radiation than traditional film X-rays and produce instant, high-resolution images that our doctors can review with you chairside. This means faster appointments, clearer explanations, and a more comfortable experience for your child.

In-house orthodontics

With Dr. Erin on the team, your child can move from pediatric dental care into orthodontic treatment without ever leaving the practice they already know and trust. Whether your child needs early interceptive treatment, traditional braces, or Invisalign, it all happens under one roof.

In-house general anesthesia and OR privileges

Smile First offers in-house general anesthesia and OR privileges, a level of access very few pediatric practices in the area can offer, so anxious patients, special needs patients, and those requiring more extensive treatment can receive safe, comfortable care without being referred elsewhere.

Prize vending machine

After every visit, patients get to pick a prize from our old-school vending machine. It's become one of the most talked-about parts of the Smile First experience, and for a lot of kids, it's something they look forward to from the moment they walk in.

CareStack online scheduling

Booking an appointment at Smile First is simple. CareStack's online scheduling lets you request an appointment anytime from any device, and new patient forms are available digitally so you can complete everything before your first visit.
